Assignment 6
Sound
Part 1
Record audio from a music CD and save it with different audio quality measures.
U2 - New Year's Day
44kHz 16 bit Stereo |
44kHz 16 bit Mono |
44kHz 8 bit Mono |
22kHz 16 bit Stereo |
22kHz 8 bit Stereo |
22kHz 16 bit Mono |
11kHz 8 bit Mono |
sample1 | sample2 | sample3 | sample4 | sample5 | sample6 | sample7 |
SIZE:904KB | 452KB | 226KB | 452KB | 226KB | 226KB | 56.5KB |
I liked sample 1 the most because it sounded better than the rest of the samples. Sample 7 sounds terrible compared to the other samples, has the smallest size, the rate(11khz) is the smallest which also determined its poor audio quality. The sample size is only 8 bits which was not good enough to determine the accuracy of original sound...
Between samples 3,5 and 6, I'd choose sample 5. Its number of samples per second(22khz) was smaller than sample 3 and the fact that sample 5 has an uncompressed stereo sound, made it sound closer to the original file than sample 3 and 6.
Between sample 2 and 4, I'd choose sample 2 because of its better sound. The difference is that sample 2 has a higher number of samples per second(44khz) which made it have a better audio quality.
Part 2
HandelMysteryFormat.wav
Audio Format: 8000kHz 8 bit Mono SIZE: 110KB |
HandelMysteryFormat.wav
Audio Format: 44.100kHz 16 bit Stereo SIZE: 2.38MB |
The original file is HandelMysteryFormat.wav (first column). I saved this file at CD quality and named HandelMysteryFormatCD. The audio quality sounded better than the original sound but its size increased a lot.
Part 3
Create an MP3 file.
