Career Goals: As a medical missionary, I would love to help build and maintain hospitals and orphanages that range from Central Africa to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Why did you choose UMKC? The six-year medical program was the first thing that attracted me to this university. But perhaps even more significantly, was my experience during my campus visits. There wasn’t a single person who wasn’t willing to help me and my family. Ultimately, this is why I chose UMKC.
What are you involved with on campus? Campus Ambassador, Medical School Ambassador, American Medical Association, and Surgical Interest Group.

Dara Alvarado

Major: Criminal Justice and Criminology

Career Goals: Lawyer
Why did you choose UMKC? I chose UMKC because I fell in love with the campus during my tour. I chose UMKC because it offered the major I wanted. I chose UMKC because it was close to home and it was affordable. I chose UMKC because I knew it was a home away from home.
What are you involved with on campus? UMKC Campus Ambassadors, UMKC Welcome Center Student Staff, Orientation Leader, Mortar Board Senior National Honor Society, Honors College, and Mock Trial.
What’s your favorite thing about UMKC? My favorite thing about UMKC is the people. From professors to staff and students.

Stacy Tran

Major: Health Sciences
Hometown: Kansas City, MO
Career Goals: I hope to give back to the communities that have showered me with love and support. Although my interest lies in medicine, my passion revolves around spreading happiness and positivity, which I aspire to do with my work!
Why did you choose UMKC? UMKC is close to home and cares about our success. The opportunities here are endless! They range from great financial aid to resources focused on jumpstarting ideas to 100+ clubs to join. Also, the alumni network is top notch with members always offering a helping hand!
What are you involved with on campus? I am a member of the Pre-Medical Society and Bachelor of Health Sciences Society at UMKC, and of course, a Campus Ambassador!

Career Goals: I’d like to start in the news reporting field preferably in television then, move towards entertainment and hosting and finally I’d like to have my own show.
Why did you choose UMKC? I chose UMKC because of the resources that are near campus and allow for advancement in the entertainment, broadcasting and reporting fields.
What are you involved with on campus? Campus Ambassador, Debate, Volunteering at various events, and Alumni Fund Call Center.

What are your career goals? Biomedical Engineering, like the ones in Grey’s Anatomy!
Why did you choose UMKC? I loved the diversity on campus and the location of the school in the city.
What are you involved with on campus? Campus Ambassador, Student Ambassador for the School of Computing and Engineering, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Student Government Association Senator, National Society of Black Engineers, and Supplemental Instructor.

Anita Cap

Major: Chemistry and English
Hometown: Kansas City, MO (born in Pristina, Serbia)
Career Goals: I want to practice Psychiatry, and hopefully help people overcome episodes of trauma and past life experiences. I want to change views on mental health and expand knowledge on it.
Why did you choose UMKC? UMKC was a school that offered an enormous amount of diversity, in people and in majors. I enjoyed the urban campus UMKC offered, but also, I appreciated the fact that I could major in two distinctly different things (Chemistry and English), without having to give up my passion for one due to schedule conflicts.
What are you involved with on campus? Pre-Medical Society, Welcome Center, Honors College, Omicron Delta Kappa, Roos Give Back, and Pride Alliance.

Becca Stockhausen

Major: Nursing
Hometown: Ballwin, MO
What are your career goals? My career goal is to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and specialize in Oncology or Trauma.
Why did you choose UMKC? I chose to attend UMKC because of the wide variety of teaching hospitals within the Kansas City area that would not only ensure I receive the best education possible but also allow me to gain abundant experience through clinical hours.
What are you involved with on campus? UMKC CRU - Crusaders for Christ, Volunteered at UMKC Mind Body Connection, Roos Give Back, and UMKC Campus Ambassador

Collin Vargas

Major: Psychology (Pre-Medicine)
Hometown: Peculiar, MO
Career Goals: Currently, I want to become a psychiatrist and to specialize in PTSD. I plan on going through the military to pay for medical school, which will consist of working with military personnel. After, I plan on working with the VA to work with veterans. Other options are: neurology, hospital psychiatrist, and trauma/ER surgeon.
Why did you choose UMKC? I chose UMKC because my Associates of Arts degree transferred directly into UMKC’s bachelor’s degree. Also, UMKC is close, affordable, medium sized, and located perfectly for a variety of opportunities.
What are you involved with on campus? I work with the Propel program, Honors College, a research volunteer for the psychology department, and a Campus Ambassador!

What are your career goals? Neonatal Surgeon
Why did you choose UMKC? I fell in love with the campus upon my first visit; the community is so welcoming and caring. They really care about my ambitions and helped my expanded my interest field.
