Why did you choose UMKC? The six-year medical program was the first thing that attracted me to this university. But perhaps even more significantly, was my experience during my campus visits. There wasn’t a single person who wasn’t willing to help me and my family. Ultimately, this is why I chose UMKC. What are you involved with on campus? I want to change views on mental health and expand knowledge on it. Why did you choose UMKC? UMKC was a school that offered an enormous amount of diversity, in people and in majors. I enjoyed the urban campus UMKC offered, but also, I appreciated the fact that I could major in two distinctly different things (Chemistry and English), without having to give up my passion for one due to schedule conflicts. Collin VargasMajor: Psychology (Pre-Medicine)Hometown: Peculiar, MO Career Goals: Currently, I want to become a psychiatrist and to specialize in PTSD. I plan on going through the military to pay for medical school, which will consist of working with military personnel. After, I plan on working with the VA to work with veterans. Other options are: neurology, hospital psychiatrist, and trauma/ER surgeon. Why did you choose UMKC? I chose UMKC because my Associates of Arts degree transferred directly into UMKC’s bachelor’s degree. Also, UMKC is close, affordable, medium sized, and located perfectly for a variety of opportunities. What are you involved with on campus? I work with the Propel program, Honors College, a research volunteer for the psychology department, and a Campus Ambassador! |
